Mode of Assessment (Formative and Summative)

Both type of assessment are an integral part of the teaching and learning process and is conducted continuously throughout the course of instruction. It is used to provide the students with feed back to enhance learning and to help the teacher understand students’ learning. Formative assessment, in particular, helps to evaluate the on going learning process of a child. Summative assessment, in particular, helps to measure the students’ achievement at the end of every topic, term and the academic session.

 

Home work

It is important to assign the work regularly to the students, but it is not good to over burden the students. Teachers must assign the daily home work with few questions (two or three questions). This should ensure the teachers for easy corrections as well as less work for the students and ensure all the home works are corrected in time and provided with written feedbacks in the workbook itself. Each class should have homework schedule displayed in the class notice board. The home work will be assessed based on the following criteria

    • Timely submission.
    • Neatness
    • Handwriting
    • Spelling
    • Language
    • Accuracy

New curriculum should be carried as per the curriculum guide.


Class Works

Students’ class works should be checked regularly and provided with written feedback in their work book for student’s awareness of their mistakes. This would also enable the parents to understand their children’s problem and help guide their children in specific area. The following criteria must be followed by the teachers and the students must be well informed about the assessment criteria in any kind of assessment.

    • Attentiveness
    • Class Participation
    • Timely Submission
    • Effort on Task
    • Follow up
    • Language
    • Concept

Project Work

Teachers must assign the students with sensible & relevant topic for the project work. It should enable the students to learn in their own through exploration, innovation and creativity. Ensure the standard word limit and time of submission. It should be assessed as per the following criteria

    • Timely submission
    • Presentation
    • Content
    • Relevancy

 

Class/ Unit test

Class or unit test must be carried out as required by the curriculum guide. It should not be carried out to fill other assessment. The assessment should be strictly as per the curriculum guide.

Portfolio (English and Dzongkha)

v  There should be uniformity in portfolio

v  Assessment criteria should be framed according to curriculum guide

v  Student should be aware of the assessment criteria

v  Standard format should be used all the time

 

Student promotion policy


A Student is declared pass if she/ he has scored

1.      40%  or above in all subjects

2.      40% or above in all subjects but   failed in any one of minor subject but above 30.

3.      40% or above in all subjects but failed in any one major subject with minimum of 35% mark obtained.

4.      40% or above in all subjects but failed in one major subject and one minor subject with minimum of 35% marks obtained in both the subjects but he is in possession of the following :

Ø  Is a captain

Ø  Is  very  good  in internal  works but  suffered health  problems during  examination

Ø  Was  sick  for  many  days  and  missed  classes (produce medical documents)

Ø  Has made  remarkable  contribution to  the  school

Ø  Aggregate above 40%

 

5.      40% and  above in all subjects and 35% or  above in any  one  major  subject, above 30%  in any one  minor  subject but  is in  possession  of  remarks as indicated  below.

Ø  Is  very  good  in internal  works but  suffered health  problems during  examination

Ø  Was  sick  for  many  days  and  misses  classes (produce medical documents)

Ø  Has made  remarkable  contribution to  the  school

Ø  Aggregate above 40%

Ø  Average  student in class

 

 

REAPPEAR/ RETEST

A student may be allowed to re- appear examination scrutinizing the reason for absenteeism less fulfilling promotion criteria set above and understated clauses

-          Has  90 %  attendance

-           Is  sick at the  time  of exam and  Possesses Medical  Certificates/ prescription by  the health  official

-          Relatives/demise  recently (  15- 20 days)

*** Fast track promotion will be awarded to the students meeting the criteria set by the department of school education (PP-V)
